THEO HAS ALWAYS "SEEN THINGS."
Strange shadows in the corner of her eye. Lights that aren't really there.
A scientist by trade, she chalks it up to harmless hallucinations she does her best to ignore.
But Theo hasn't always been a woman of science.
She grew up in an ascetic, conservative Christian church - and loved it. She loved God.
Until she started to grow up, come into her own body, and realize that she'd been lied to for years.
We meet Theo as she embarks on an expedition to study the red-winged blackbird - specifically, their sexuality and evolution.
But while in the remote woods, she starts to envision strange sights:
figures in the trees,
serpents in her tent,
and worst of all,
THE ANTICHRIST SPEAKING FROM HER PREGNANT BELLY.
Not wanting to succumb to religious paranoia, Theo conceals her visions, even as they grow to resemble the apocalypse described in the Book of Revelation.
It becomes clear that Theo's former church has had a hand in what's happening to Theo - and the apocalypse they're trying to accelerate.
